Comitt's Solution

The wellbore’s producing zones had been hydraulically fractured using plug & perf upon initial completion in early 2017. Our technical team suggested a pinpoint re-stimulation approach using the COMITT’s EXCITE System™.  The EXCITE System™ was configured to straddle individual perforation clusters thereby ensuring 100% zonal isolation and precise acid placement control.

Sequence Of Events

The treatment was performed in July 2018. The EXCITE System™ BHA was RIH on 2-7/8” tubing. For each zone, fluid was pumped down the tubing string to activate the EXCITE System™. A distinct pressure signature was observed on surface each time the tool was set, and 1,000 gallons of 15% acid was placed into each zone for treatment. Once each treatment was completed, pumps were shut down, the EXCITE System™ unset and was moved to the next zone. A total of 46 zones were stimulated in a single trip, with time between zones as fast as 3 minutes. The entire treatment took 15 hours.

When POOH the tool string encountered well bore debris. Following the EXCITE System™ contingency operational procedures, a dissolvable ball was dropped into the tubing string activating the proprietary C|PAK circulation component above the top packer. Circulation through the C|PAK was established and the BHA was then POOH successfully.


The EXCITE System™ successfully placed a total of 47,000 gallons of acid (2,000 for the first zone and 1,000 for the rest) into the target intervals. Unexpected downhole debris caused issues but was resolved using the EXCITE SYSTEM’s backup circulation feature. 46 zones were treated in a single trip with industry-leading efficiency between zones. The EXCITE System™ was POOH in good condition with very little evidence of wear in the sealing element.

Six months post-treatment, the customer sent back results from their compared study of three re-stimulation technologies implemented – bullheading, spot acid, and COMITT’s EXCITE System™. Two wells treated with the bullheading method either showed a transitional spike in production, but died down very quickly in a few months, or did not show much improvemenimt at all (well 1 & 2). All three wells treated with the spot acid method did not show effective results (well 3, 4 & 5). The well treated with COMITT’s EXCITE System™ returned a great outcome with an improved and steady production (well 6).

The above charts were plotted from actual production data, with green lines representing the oil production rates. Well 6, which was treated by COMITT’s EXCITE System™, has been consistently producing 160BPD during the six months post-treatment and outperformed all the other 5 wells treated with other methods. (Currently, wells 1 to 5 are producing 40, 15, 60, 15 and 70 BPD)
